SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Brianne Moeller hit two home runs including a walk-off blast in the bottom of the seventh to send UIS to a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader split with Missouri S&T on Saturday at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex.

Missouri S&T won the first game, 9-0 in five innings, before the Prairie Stars took the nightcap, 8-7.

The opener was all Lady Miners as they rapped out nine hits and scoring eight runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Brooke Carroll was all the UIS offense as she had both Prairie Star hits. Moeller took the loss in the circle.

The second game was a back-and-forth contest.

Missouri S&T opened the game with a solo run in the first before UIS came back in their half on a two-run home run by Carroll.  The Prairie Stars added four in the second inning keyed by a three-run blast off the bat of Moeller. Ashley Sanders provided the other UIS run when she singled home Jessica Yocum.

The Lady Miners came roaring back in the fifth with four runs and then took the lead in the sixth.

UIS trailed 7-6 entering the bottom of the seventh when Sanders led off the inning with a double setting the stage for Moeller’s dramatic bomb to left and the victory. Moeller finished the game  going 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Aubrey Watson earned the victory for UIS by striking out 12.

The split moved UIS to 8-22 overall and 3-15 in the GLVC while Missouri S&T moved to 18-14 and 10-8.

The Prairie Stars are back in action tomorrow when they host Maryville in a GLVC doubleheader. The action at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex begins at noon.
