ROCHESTER, Ill. – UIS rallied with a run in the fifth and one more in the sixth in the second game to post a split with Robert Morris-Springfield in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday. The Eagles won the first game 4-1 while the Prairie Stars took the nightcap 3-2. In the opener, UIS got two hits each from Ashley Sanders, Brooke Carroll and Jessica Yocum to pace the offense. Alexandra Newbern took the loss for the Prairie Stars despite allowing only three earned runs and striking out three. The nightcap was a see-saw affair. UIS scored a run in the top of the first before Robert Morris posted two in their half. The Prairie Stars tied the game in the fifth and scored the game-winner in the sixth. Aubrey Watson earned the victory for UIS, allowing five hits and striking out nine in her seven innings of work. Sanders was the stalwart on offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jaylyn Jones added a pair of hits while Brittany Morgan and Newbern each had RBI. UIS (10-26 overall) returns to GLVC action on Saturday at Missouri-St. Louis.
