EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Brianne Moeller drove in two of UIS’ four runs to help the Prairie Stars win game two and earn a split with Southern Indiana in a Great Lakes Valley Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday at the USI Softball Field. USI took the opening game 12-2 in five innings before UIS returned to win the nightcap 4-0. In the first game USI jumped out early with two runs in the first and four each in the second and third before adding two more in the fourth. UIS plated two in the fourth when Brooke Carroll smashed a two-run home run. Moeller took the loss for the Prairie Stars while Ashley Sanders and Brittany Morgan added hits. The second game featured UIS’ Alexandra Newbern tossing a five-hit shutout for 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Aubrey Watson came on to get the final out and earn her first save. UIS got on the board in the first when Moeller scored on an error. The Prairie Stars added three in the third. Morgan drove in Emmarie Snyder with a sacrifice fly and then Moeller delivered a two-run single to close out the scoring. UIS improved to 11-29 overall and 4-20 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars return home on Tuesday to host Eureka in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. |
