SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The UIS women’s tennis team finished the weekend with a 2-1 record while hosting three matches at the Velasco Tennis Center. On Friday, the Prairie Stars beat Williams Jewell, 5-4. On Saturday UIS topped Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Quincy, 7-2, before falling to St. Joseph’s, 7-2. In Friday’s match, UIS got victories from Priyanka Deo and Thiyumi Abeysinghe at No. 1 doubles. In singles play, Abeysinghe won at No. 2 as did Rosanna Ramilo (No. 4) and Brook Tweedy (No. 5) and Claire Connor (No.6) but William Jewell taking the doubles point proved to be the difference. In Saturday’s first match, the Prairie Stars dominated Quincy. Jane Brown and Ramilo won at No. 2 doubles along with Tweedy and Connor at No. 3. The victories continued in singles as Deo (No. 1), Abeysinghle (No. 2), Ramilo (No. 3), Tweedy (No. 5) and Connor (No. 6) all posted victories. St. Joseph’s used a strong showing in singles to beat UIS in Saturday’s second dual. Brown and Ramilo won at No. 2 doubles as did Tweedy and Connor at No. 3 but the Pumas won all six singles matches to claim the victory. |
