Men's Tennis Wins Three

Conner McGowan helped UIS with three duals this weekend.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The UIS men’s tennis team won three of the four dual matches it hosted over the weekend at the Velasco Tennis Center.

The Prairie Stars opened the weekend by dropping a 7-2 decision to McKendree on Friday morning. UIS got wins from Punsisi Dayaratne and Josh Patrick at No. 1 doubles. Dayaratne was the lone UIS victor in singles at No. 1.

In Friday’s afternoon match, the Prairie Stars stopped William Jewell, 6-3. Conner and Matt McGowan (No. 2) and Sharma Kumar and Mike Czarny (No. 3) posted doubles victories while UIS go singles wins from Dayaratne (No. 1), Conner McGowan (No. 3), Scott Mauer (No. 5) and Patrick Callahan (No. 6) to earn the win.

Saturday saw UIS sweep a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference duals. The Prairie Stars opened the day by beating Quincy, 8-1 and then topped St. Joseph’s by an identical 8-1 score.

Dayaratne, Patrick, Matthew McGowan and Kumar all had two singles wins on the day.
