SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Brittany Morgan cracked a three-run homer and have seven RBI on the day in helping UIS to a doubleheader split with Kentucky Wesleyan in a Great Lakes Valley Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday at the Land of Lincoln Complex.

The Prairie Stars took game one, 7-6, scoring seven unanswered runs to earn the victory while the Panthers won the nightcap, 13-8.

In the opener, UIS spotted Kentucky Wesleyan a 6-0 lead after the first 2 ½ innings before beginning their comeback. In the bottom of the third the Prairie Stars scored four runs, three of them on Morgan’s three-run homer and the other when Jessica Yocum singled home Brianne Moeller.

UIS took the lead in their half of the fourth with three runs scored by Alexandra Newbern, Jaylyn Jones and Morgan.

Moeller made it stand up in earning the victory in the circle. Morgan collected two hits to pace the offense.

The nightcap saw Kentucky Wesleyan score one in the first before the Prairie Stars tallied twice in their half when Jones tripled to score Ashley Sanders and Morgan singled home Jones but the Panthers roared back with nine runs in their half of the third.

After Kentucky Wesleyan added three runs in the fourth, UIS began to chip away, scoring four in the fourth. Morgan drove in a pair with a double to key the inning. UIS added two more in the seventh and both Morgan and Moeller had RBI singles but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers held on for the win.

UIS moved to 12-30 overall and 5-21 in the GLVC and will conclude the home portion of the season tomorrow when it hosts Bellarmine. Game time is noon.
