It's Official: UIS Moves to NCAA Divison II

INDIANAPOLIS -- Four institutions recently were approved as active members of Division II and will assume full membership in the division beginning September 1.

The institutions are King College (Tennessee), Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), the University of Illinois Springfield, and Urbana University. The Division II Membership Committee approved the new members at its recent summer meeting in Indianapolis.

All four institutions completed Division II’s provisional-member process. King, Illinois Springfield and Urbana previously were affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Lincoln reclassified from Division III.

The Membership Committee also announced that applications for membership have been accepted by the following institutions: Black Hills State University, California Baptist University, Lindenwood University, Malone University, McKendree University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Ursuline College and Walsh University. Their class also will include Lambuth University, which was held back for its first year of candidacy.

Institutions advancing to provisional membership were California State University, East Bay; Dominican University of California; Maryville University of Saint Louis; and Ohio Dominican University.

Institutions moved to the second year of candidacy were Academy of Art, Cedarville University, Minot State University, Notre Dame College (Ohio), Simon Fraser University, University of Sioux Falls and William Jewell College.
